Many people don?t realise what happens when an stray or abandoned animal ends up in a pound. If microchipped, they are held for 14 days at which point they can, and frequently are, put down. Un-microchipped animals are held for only 7 days. Animals that are surrendered by their owners have no holding period and many end up being put down the same day that they are bought in. During peak times of the year, a Pound may needlessly kill many healthy and re-homeable animals every day, simply because they don?t have enough spaces available.
Purchasing an Animal from Blacktown pound:
Companion Animals (cats and dogs) held at the Animal Holding Facility (AHF) are in two categories :
1.Animals that are being held for their mandatory holding period of 7 or 14 days To register an interest in these animals you will need to complete an Expression of Interest (EOI) form.
2.Animals that are being held after their mandatory holding period has expired. These animals, if assessed as suitable for rehoming, are available for immediate sale.
For the purchase of cats and dogs that are within their mandatory holding period (7 or 14 days) Council operates under an Expression of Interest (EOI) system. If you see a cat or dog you like, you are welcome to submit an EOI to purchase that animal.
